For 75 years, The New
York Central Terminal has stood as a monument to transportation in the
city of Buffalo, NY. It held a place at the top of the list of
significant railroad stations around the country, serving trains of the
New York Central, Pennsylvania, and Toronto Hamilton & Buffalo RRs
while also serving as a gateway for visitors to Niagara Falls. This new
photo book by Ken Kraemer Buffalo Central Terminal - A Photo
Album consists of 122 high quality photos in black and white
and color of the Terminal from the 1950s through the 1980s. In addition
to photos of the inside and outside of the building, pictures include
the train platform area, Tower 49 and various trains that served the
station. Railroads include New York Central, Penn Central, Conrail,
Toronto Hamilton & Buffalo, Amtrak and various steam excursion
engines. Buffalo Central Terminal is currently undergoing restoration
by a determined group of volunteers, after being abandoned and
vandalized to a sad state of disrepair. The photos in this book were
taken mostly in the late 1970s/early 1980s while the building was still
in good condition and still in use as a train station. They show a bit
of the glory that once was Central Terminal. Foreword by Garnet
Cousins, Architect and author of the 1985 TRAINS Magazine article on
Central Terminal. The book is 72 pages, softcover. The title is popular
not only with residents of the Buffalo area, but also has appeal to
fans of rail passenger service and this country's great rail terminals.
It has brought back personal memories to those who have had the
experience of visiting and using this great station during its better
years, and may bring understanding and support to help those who are in
the process of restoring it today.
